It is believed that when Saturn's Sadesati arrives, bad luck and adversities begin in a person's life. It is said that if Shanidev gets angry with someone, he can transform him from a king to a pauper and if he is pleased, he can bestow immense prosperity. According to astrology, Shani Dev is considered the lord of Capricorn and Aquarius.
To avoid the wrath of Shani Dev and get his blessings, people try to please him, especially on Saturdays. Devotees believe that worshiping Shani Dev on Saturday can reduce his adverse effects.
Curse of Shanidev:
According to a mythological story, Shanidev was a devotee of Lord Shri Krishna. Even in childhood, Shani Dev was engrossed in devotion to Krishna. The story is that Shanidev's wife was also a virtuous and knowledgeable woman. One night, after taking a bath in the season of Chitrarath, he went to Shanidev to get a son. Even at this time Shani Dev was meditating Lord Krishna.
During this time Shani Dev was engrossed in the meditation of Lord Krishna and he did not even look at his wife. Considering this as an insult, Chitrarath cursed Shanidev that whoever he looks at will be destroyed.
After realizing his mistake and repenting, Shanidev apologized to his wife. Unfortunately, he had no power to cancel the curse, as a result of which Shanidev always walked with his head bowed so that his gaze did not fall on anyone.
Devotees believe that to please Shani Dev, they should do regular worship, chant his mantras, do penance and meditate. Apart from this, offering water to Peepal tree on Saturday is also considered auspicious.
