Many types of fasts have been described in Hinduism. One of these is Jaya Parvati Vrat which is observed every year on the thirteenth day of Sud Paksha of Ashad month. This time this fast is falling on 19th July, Friday. Jaya Parvati Vrat is observed on 23rd July. There is a tradition of worshiping Mother Parvati in this fast. It is believed that the one who observes this fast has a happy married life. However, there are many strict rules regarding this fast and one of them is the prohibition of salt. Consumption of any type of salt is considered forbidden during Jaya Parvati Vrat. Let us know from Jyotishacharya Radhakant Vats.

Why salt is forbidden on Jaya Parvati Vrat 2024?
According to legend, once Mother Parvati invited all the gods and goddesses for a meal on Mount Kailash. All the gods and goddesses reached Kailash and Mother Parvati prepared various dishes for everyone. When Mother Parvati served food to everyone, everyone ate with great gusto.

All the gods and goddesses were very happy to eat the food prepared by Goddess Parvati, but when Goddess Parvati herself ate the food prepared by her, she realized that there was no salt in the food. Goddess Parvati saw that all the gods and goddesses respected her and accepted the food without sweetness with great reverence.

Then Mother Parvati told all the gods that food without salt is considered equivalent to fasting food and in a way all the gods kept the fast. In such a situation, Jaya Parvati fast will be observed on the Tritiya Tithi of Sud Paksha of Ashad month in which salt will be prohibited.
