Why is the illegal business of kidney transplant flourishing? Know everything including demand and supply

In this case, Delhi Police has arrested gang leader Bangladeshi citizen Russell Ahmed, Mohammad Suman Miya, Mohammad Rokon alias Rahul Sarkar alias Vijay Mandal, Ritesh Pal of Tripura, Shariq of UP and Vikram Singh of Uttarakhand besides Dr. Vijaya Rajkumar.

This racket is going on since 2019

According to the police, this racket was going on since 2019. The gang members used to charge Rs 25-30 lakh for each transplant. According to the police, the role of the doctor who has been arrested was that she was assisting in organ transplantation, although she knew that the donor and the recipient were not related, so she was also assisting in organ transplantation. This is being considered part of a conspiracy.

Police claim- more than 15 illegal transplants

Delhi Police claims that the accused doctor has done more than 15 illegal transplants so far. Each donor was given Rs 4 to 5 lakh while Rs 25 to 30 lakh was taken from the patients. The accused doctor used to charge Rs 2 to 3 lakh for the transplant.

Big difference between demand and supply

Now the question is why is the business of illegal kidney transplant flourishing? Actually, a big reason behind such a racket is the demand in lakhs. A living donor kidney can save people's lives after kidney failure. Therefore, there is a huge demand for living donors. At the same time, the supply is less than the demand, due to which the kidney racket is flourishing. There are strict rules and protocols for kidney transplant. However, it is violated and transplanted.

In fact, every year 2 lakh kidney transplants are required in the country but only 15 to 20 thousand transplants are done. The rest of the patients are either on dialysis or become victims of these gangs and resort to illegal methods.

Kidney transplant does not require large infrastructure

The presence of two kidneys in the human body makes the donor kidney ready for transplantation and such transplantation does not require large infrastructure and expertise. The surgery can be performed even in small centres. Hence most of the cases come from small towns.

through the complete game documentation

The entire game of transplant is done through documents. Fake documents are also prepared regarding the relationship between the donor and the patient. If someone wants to show the relationship between husband-wife or father-son, then the documents related to this are also faked and presented.

If the husband needs a kidney and the wife is made a donor, then a paper of the wife's blood group is prepared according to the husband's blood group. In which the HL sample detection report is checked. The actual donor is someone else and the report is attached with the wife's patient report. In such a situation, the kidney transplant approval committee has no way to confirm these cases.
