BJP and Congress have once again come face to face regarding the Constitution. The allegations and counter-allegations made six months ago have now come to Parliament. Angered by Rajnath Singh’s allegations, Congress member Priyanka Gandhi Vadra fiercely targeted BJP. He said that if BJP had got majority in the Lok Sabha, the Constitution would have been changed. But Congress controlled BJP by going among the public.
In India, both Congress and BJP keep attacking each other regarding the Constitution. When Congress was in power, BJP was accused of breaking the Constitution, now Congress is also accusing BJP of doing the same. In the last six months, Congress has become so aggressive that it has created the impression in the minds of voters that the BJP is planning to change the entire Constitution. The Congress succeeded in its objective and a large section of the voters became fearful that if the BJP came to power, it would take away their constitutional rights. Therefore, BJP remained far away from majority in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. It is a different matter that Narendra Modi formed the government for the third time with the help of his allies.
BJP’s defense on the Constitution
This will be called a victory of Congress in democracy because it carried out a well-planned attack and in this attack it caused a lot of damage to the ruling party. BJP had to defend itself again and again. Perhaps that is why as soon as BJP came to power, it celebrated the 75 years of the Constitution with a year-long celebration. This ceremony started on 26 November 2024. 75 years ago, on 26 November 1949, the Constitution of our independent country was made and on 26 February 1950, India became a constitutional nation. India became independent from British India and our country has a parliamentary republic, this is also our victory. Otherwise, many countries that gained independence from the British (Canada, Australia, etc.) still have parliamentary monarchies. The head of state there is the King of Britain.
The arbitrariness of the ruling party should be curbed
The importance of the Constitution is evident from the fact that democracy has prevailed in our country for the last 75 years. Therefore the Constitution is sacred for us in every way. This keeps the Dutta party under control and does not allow internal forces that harm democracy to flourish. In celebration of 75 years of the glorious journey of the Constitution, one of its major programs was to produce a documentary film on the historical journey of the Indian Constitution. Also a commemorative coin and postage stamp dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Constitution. The release of the books ‘Making of the Constitution of India: A Glimpse’ and ‘Making of the Constitution of India and its Glorious Journey’ is also a part of the celebrations. Also, the Constitution of India will be published in Sanskrit and Maithili languages. There were 395 articles in the original Constitution, but after 106 amendments, their number has now increased to 470 (but 395 in constitutional count). The Constitution came into force on 26 January 1950.
Debate on the Constitution in Parliament
A two-day special debate on the Constitution began in Parliament on Friday (December 13). BJP and Congress have once again come face to face regarding the Constitution. The allegations and counter-allegations made six months ago have now come face to face in Parliament. While campaigning for the Lok Sabha elections, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi kept a copy of the Constitution in every public meeting he held and accused the BJP of changing the Constitution if it comes to power this time. This also had its impact and BJP could not touch the figure of 272 in the Lok Sabha elections. It is a different matter that with the help of allied forces, Modi government was formed at the Center for the third time. But BJP has become defensive on the charge of changing the Constitution. The message went across the country that BJP is ready to change the Constitution.
Nehru changed the constitution 17 times
When the debate took place in the Parliament in the program organized under the campaign ‘Our Constitution, Our Respect’, provocative dialogues were heard. After the Question Hour, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh stood up and while starting a special debate on the Constitution in the Parliament, Rajnath Singh alleged that a political party (Congress) is considering it as its prerogative. She is breaking the Constitution of her own free will. He alleged that the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru had amended the Constitution 17 times during his tenure. Not only this, his daughter and third Prime Minister Indira Gandhi changed the Constitution 28 times. The Constitution was later amended ten times during the government of his son and Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Even during UPA, Manmohan Singh of Congress had changed the Constitution 7 times. Then with what mouth does Congress talk about protecting the Constitution?
Congress furious in the name of Savarkar!
During the same debate, as soon as Defense Minister Rajnath Singh mentioned Shyama Prasad Mukherjee and Vinayak Damodar Savarkar in the context of the Constitution, Congress MPs started an uproar. Both the BJP and the Congress, knowing that the debate would create an uproar, had issued whips to members of their respective parties to remain present in the House on 13 and 14 December. Since December 13 was also the anniversary of the attack on Parliament, tribute was first paid to the soldiers killed in that attack in both the Houses of Parliament. On 13 December 2001, five terrorists of Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba attacked the Parliament. Afzal Guru was the main accused in the terrorist attack. Five Delhi Police constables, one woman constable and two security personnel were martyred in this attack. Security forces killed all the terrorists.
Priyanka’s attack on BJP
Angered by Rajnath Singh’s allegations, Congress member Priyanka Gandhi Vadra attacked BJP on Friday itself. He said that if BJP had got majority in the Lok Sabha, the Constitution would have been changed. But Congress controlled BJP by going among the public. He once silenced the ruling party with his speech. He said that the one voice raised among the leaders who fought for freedom was our Constitution. He said that it took years for many leaders including Baba Saheb Ambedkar, Maulana Azad, Jawahar Lal Nehru to make the Constitution. It is the Constitution itself which gives every person of the country the right to form or break the government. Therefore the government will have to lean against it.
There is no mention of Mahatma Gandhi
Congress’s KC Venugopal alleged that Rajnath Singh deliberately forgot Mahatma Gandhi while starting the debate on the Constitution. It is regrettable not to mention the saint who sacrificed his life for the country’s independence. Samajwadi Party supremo Akhilesh Yadav alleged that this government is ignoring the secular values of the Constitution. He said that this government is treating Muslims like second class citizens. Their properties are being destroyed and they are continuously attacking. Akhilesh Yadav stressed that if this government does not conduct caste-wise census, then the first task of the next government will be to conduct caste-wise census. This discussion will also take place on Saturday.
