Whether you are a beer drinker or not, you have probably seen a beer bottle at some point. There are different brands of beer available in the market. If you have noticed, beer bottles are either green or brown in color.
But amidst all this, do you know why beer does not come in a transparent bottle like liquor? If you do not know, then let us tell you why beer does not come in a transparent bottle like liquor.
It is believed that the first beer company was opened thousands of years ago in ancient Egypt. Since beer was packed in transparent bottles at that time, it was found that due to the beer being in white bottles, the ultraviolet rays (UV rays) emitted from the sun's rays were spoiling the acid present in the beer, due to which the beer started smelling bad and people could not drink it.
After this, beer manufacturers found a solution to this problem and chose brown coated bottles instead of beer bottles. Beer did not spoil in these coloured bottles and people also started drinking beer with great gusto. This was because the sun rays had no effect on brown coloured bottles. After this, during the Second World War, beer bottles were painted green.
This is why chloroform (an anesthetic chemical) is also kept in a brown bottle, because it reacts with sunlight. But, the sun rays have no effect on it when kept in a brown bottle.
