Plane crash in Nepal: Many people have died in a horrific plane crash while taking off at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal. Shaurya Airlines flight number MP CRJ 200 took off from runway two for Pokhara. Meanwhile, due to technical fault, the plane caught fire immediately after takeoff. In which 18 out of 19 people on board the plane have died. At the same time, the pilot has been rescued and is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital.

This is not the first incident in Nepal. A similar air accident occurred in January last year, in which all the people on board the plane died. According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, at least 104 plane accidents have occurred since 1955. Out of which 44 accidents were fatal, in which more than 900 people lost their lives. The question here is why do air accidents happen again and again in Nepal? Let's find out…

The geography of the country is not appropriate

Nepal's Civil Aviation Authority published a safety report in 2019, in which they acknowledged that the country's geographical location makes it difficult to fly aircraft. 8 of the 14 highest mountains in the world are located in Nepal. Mount Everest is also located here. During the monsoon, Nepal's aviation industry depends on only a few types of aircraft that can take off or land from small spaces.

More trouble for small planes

Nepal Aviation Authority relies more on small aircraft to reach places situated between the mountains. Due to which the aircraft does not need much space for take-off and landing. However, this also causes problems. According to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, aircraft with a capacity of 19 seats or more become unbalanced quickly and there is a risk of crashing.

The most dangerous airport in the world

Nepal's Tenzing Hillary Airport, also known as Lukla, is one of the most dangerous airports in the world. Built near Mount Everest in the snowy Himalayan mountains, this airport is located at an altitude of 9,325 feet. Only small planes can land here because the runway is very short. It also has hills on one side and a deep valley on the other. For this reason, this airport in north-eastern Nepal is called the world's most dangerous airport.

Old planes are being used despite warnings

Old planes are still being used for air travel in Nepal. These planes are not reliable in bad weather. A year ago, the International Civil Aviation Organization partnered with Nepal to prevent plane accidents. Safety standards have increased since then, but accidents still occur.
