The personal life of Bhojpuri cinema powerstar and actor-politician Pawan Singh, who hails from Bihar, has once again come into the limelight due to court disputes. The Family Court in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh has imposed a judicial fine of ₹ 1,000 on Pawan Singh for not appearing in the hearing of the maintenance and divorce case filed by his wife Jyoti Singh.
Pawan Singh’s statement in this much talked about case was to be recorded before the court on Wednesday (September 9). While on one hand his wife Jyoti Singh was personally present in the court along with her advocates, Pawan Singh remained absent from the hearing. The court took a strict stance on Pawan Singh’s continuous absence and imposed damages and fixed the next hearing of the case on October 5.

Reference to flood and waterlogging in Patna: The lawyer told the court that due to heavy rains and the spate of river Ganga in Bihar’s capital Patna and surrounding areas, there is a situation of severe flood and waterlogging. Due to this natural disaster and traffic disruption, Pawan Singh could not reach Ballia court on time.

Opposition from Jyoti Singh’s side: Jyoti Singh’s lawyer strongly opposed this argument and told the court that even before this, Pawan Singh had not come to record his statement on previous dates (11 August). He objected, accusing him of deliberately prolonging the case, following which the judge imposed a fine of ₹1,000 for his absence.
Along with the divorce petition, Jyoti Singh has demanded financial maintenance and permanent alimony from Pawan Singh:

Alimony of ₹10 crore and separate house: According to the details filed in the court, Jyoti Singh has said that if Pawan Singh is not ready to keep her as his wife, then she will be forced to live a respectable life. Lump sum alimony of ₹10 crore and to stay an independent house Let it be given.
