Gujarat Titans head coach Ashish Nehra has given the reason behind not using RTM card for Shami.

India’s experienced fast bowler Mohammed Shami will now be seen playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Hyderabad bought Shami in the IPL 2025 auction for Rs 10 crore. This happened when his old franchise Gujarat Titans did not use the right to match card.

After the IPL 2025 mega auction, Gujarat Titans head coach Ashish Nehra told GeoCinema that the plan was to retain Shami, but the strategy did not work. Nehra said, ‘What Mohammed Shami has done for Gujarat Titans and India is really commendable. This was a part of our repatriation plan, but not every plan is successful in repatriation.

He further said, ‘We had thought that we would use the RTM card, but considering the price at which the auction took place, we had to change our decision.’

Mohammed Shami’s journey so far in IPL
In IPL 2022, Gujarat Titans bought Mohammed Shami for Rs 6.25 crore. Gujarat Titans won the IPL trophy in his debut season and Shami played an important role in it. Shami performed brilliantly in IPL 2023, taking 28 wickets in 17 matches and won the Purple Cap. Shami’s average was 18.64 and economy was 8.03. Shami suffered an ankle injury during the ODI World Cup 2023, due to which he was ruled out of IPL 2024.
