News India Live, Digital Desk: Jharkhand Election Analysis : Jama assembly seat, one of the hottest seats in Jharkhand, has seen a big upheaval this time. Here the fort of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has collapsed due to the storm of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). JMM’s young candidate Somesh Soren has registered a landslide victory by defeating BJP stalwart Babulal Soren, brother of former chief minister Babulal Marandi, by a huge margin.

This victory is being considered not just for one candidate but for the prestige of the Soren family. At the same time, this defeat is a big blow for BJP, which had given all its strength to win this seat. After all, what were the reasons that even the big name of BJP could not penetrate the stronghold of JMM?

1. Hemant Soren’s face and wave of sympathy

Jama assembly constituency falls in Santhal Pargana, which has been the traditional stronghold of JMM and the Soren family. In this entire election, JMM contested on the face of former Chief Minister Hemant Soren. JMM made the arrest of Hemant Soren a big issue and called it an attack on tribal identity. The result was that there was a wave of sympathy in favor of Hemant Soren among the entire Santhal, which made the victory of Somesh Soren easy.

2. The issue of ‘outsider’ versus ‘local’

Babulal Soren may be a big name, but he is originally from Giridih. JMM campaigned in this election by calling him an ‘outsider candidate’. At the same time, Somesh Soren is a local leader and his influence extends to every village. JMM was successful in giving the message that Jama can be developed only by a local leader and not by an outsider.

3. Sita Soren’s ‘factor’ also did not work

BJP was hoping that it would benefit from the entry of Sita Soren, three-time MLA from Jama and sister-in-law of Hemant Soren, into the party. Sita Soren also campaigned vigorously for Babulal Soren, but it seems that the people of Jama expressed their trust in the ‘original family’ rather than the ‘daughter-in-law’ of the Soren family. Sita Soren’s defection also caused a sympathy wave in favor of JMM.

4. Strong organizational structure of JMM

JMM’s organization in Jama is very strong up to the booth level. Party workers and leaders remained continuously active among the public. At the same time, BJP’s organization appeared weaker than JMM. JMM was completely successful in keeping its traditional vote bank (tribals and minorities) united.

5. Public trust in young faces

Somesh Soren is a young and new face, while Babulal Soren is an experienced leader. It seems that the young voters of Jama showed more confidence in a young leader. Somesh Soren emphasized on issues like education, health and employment in his campaign, which was successful in attracting the youth.

Overall, Jama’s victory has proved that the magic of ‘Soren’ family and ‘bow and arrow’ still exists in Santhal Pargana, which remains a big challenge for BJP to penetrate.
