New Delhi, 14 October (HIST). Due to the rise in food prices, the wholesale inflation rate based on Wholesale Price Index (WPI) increased to 1.84 percent in the month of September, whereas it was 1.31 percent in the month of August. The wholesale inflation rate in September 2023 was 0.26 percent.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry said in a statement on Monday that the wholesale inflation rate has increased to 1.84 percent on an annual basis in the month of September. Last month in August, this rate had come down to 1.31 percent. The wholesale inflation rate in July was 2.04 percent. The ministry said that wholesale inflation has increased due to increase in prices of vegetables and food items.
According to the data, the prices of food items have increased by 9.47 percent in the month of September, whereas it was 3.26 percent in August. However, fuel and electricity prices fell by more than 4 per cent in September, compared to 0.67 per cent in the previous month. At the same time, the annual inflation rate of primary article of Wholesale Price Index has increased to 6.59 percent, which was 2.42 percent in August. However, the wholesale inflation rate of manufacturing products has come down from 1.22 percent to one percent.
