Wholesale inflation hits 13-month high of 1.26 percent in April as food prices rise |Live Updates,Unveiling the Latest India News Trends

WPI Inflation: In April, the wholesale inflation rate was recorded at 1.26 percent year-on-year. Which was 0.53 percent in March. Wholesale inflation has increased due to increase in food prices, this has been revealed from the data released by the Commerce Ministry on Tuesday.

Wholesale prices of potatoes and onions increased

Onion prices increased by 59.75 percent in April. Which was 56.99 percent in March. The inflation rate of potato has been recorded at 71.97 percent. Which was 52.96 percent in March. A year ago, onion prices had fallen by 5.54 percent and potato prices had increased by 30.56 percent.

Wholesale prices of food items increased

Wholesale prices of food items increased by 5.52 percent year-on-year. It grew at the rate of 4.7 percent in March. On a monthly basis, it has increased by 1.94 percent as compared to 0.95 percent in March. The rise in wholesale inflation in April was due to increase in prices of food items, electricity, crude petroleum and natural gas, manufactured food items and other manufactured goods.

Wholesale prices of crude petroleum increased

In April, 2024, wholesale prices of crude petroleum increased to 4.97 percent as compared to 1.64 percent last year. In April, wholesale inflation rate of primary commodities was recorded at 5.01 percent. Which was 4.51 percent in March. This includes the cost of food items, vegetables and minerals.

Relief in retail inflation

In the data released yesterday, retail inflation reached an 11-month low of 4.83 percent. Which was 4.85 percent in March. Retail inflation has come down due to fall in fuel and electricity prices.
