The man who tried to kill former US President Donald Trump has been identified as 20-year-old Thomas Crooks. Secret Service snipers shot Trump seconds after he opened fire. One person attending the rally died and two others were seriously injured in the firing.
A bullet passed near Trump's ear. According to the FBI, it is investigating Thomas Crooks' motive behind the attack on Trump. According to state voter records, Thomas Crooks was a registered Republican and would have voted for the first time in the November 5 presidential election if he were alive. In 2021, at the age of 17, he donated $15 to a group associated with the Democratic Party. His father Matthew Crooks said that after learning about what had happened, he would talk about his son after talking to security agencies. Thomas graduated from Bethel Park High School in 2022. He also received a $500 award under the 'Star Award' from the National Math and Science Initiative.
After the attack on Trump, vehicles of security agencies raided outside Thomas' house. Thomas, born in September 2003, lives in Butler, Pennsylvania, 40 km from where he was attacked at Trump's rally. The faraway place is Bethel Park. According to media reports, he fired from the roof of an under-construction plant about 250 meters away from the rally site.
