Lucknow: Despite his notorious reputation as a criminal, Mukhtar Ansari has made a notable name for himself in the political scene of Uttar Pradesh. Ansari had won five separate elections to the Legislative Assembly, winning from Mau district of Uttar Pradesh. Interestingly, Bahujan Samaj Party contributed to two of these victories.

Furthermore, Mukhtar Ansari is also a relative of Mohammed Hamid Ansari, an eminent personality who has served as the former Vice President of India.

Mukhtar Ansari's 'infamous' career

Purvanchal's 'Baahubali' Mukhtar Ansari was notorious for engaging in criminal activities in the cities of Mau, Ghazipur, Varanasi and Jaunpur districts in the 1990s. He started his political career in the mid-90s after becoming a part of the student union at Banaras Hindu University. Later, due to his popularity, he was given a seat in the flight assembly elections and was elected as MLA in 1996.
