Who said monarchy is over? These dynasties are contesting Lok Sabha elections

We all know that monarchy has ended in the country since independence in 1947. However, the ground reality is different. Even today many children of Rajpi family are contesting elections.

The ruling BJP has become a favorite destination for the royals. This time BJP has given tickets to 10 people from the royal family.

BJP has given ticket to Yaduveer Krishnadutt Chamaraja Wadiyar. He belongs to Mysore dynasty. His grandfather Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar was a four-time Congress MP until 1999. He left politics after losing the 2004 Lok Sabha elections. Now this family is again entering politics through Yaduveer.

Mahima Kumari Vishwaraj Singh is the BJP candidate from Rajsamand, the stronghold of Mewar Rajputs. He belongs to the royal family of Mewar, Rajasthan. Mahima's husband Vishwaraj Singh Mewar is already in politics. He is MLA from Nathdwara.

BJP has made Kriti Singh Debbarman its candidate from Tripura East. Debbarma belongs to the Manikya royal family of Tripura. She is the elder sister of Tipra Motha party leader Pradyot Debbarma. TMP recently became part of the NDA government in the state. Yogeshwar Raj, who comes from the Kawardha royal family, is the husband of Kriti Singh.

BJP has fielded Rajmata Amrita Roy against Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra from Krishnanagar seat of West Bengal. Roy belongs to the royal family of Krishnanagar. Similarly, in Odisha, BJP has fielded Malvika Keshari Dev, wife of former BJD MP Arka Keshari Dev. The pair joined the BJP in 2023.

Apart from many royals who are contesting elections for the first time, there are some who have been Lok Sabha members before and are now contesting elections on BJP ticket. Former Congress MP Preneet Kaur will contest from Patiala after her husband Captain Amarinder Singh joined the BJP.

Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, a scion of the Gwalior royal family, is already in the BJP. The Rajya Sabha MP is contesting elections as a BJP candidate for the first time.

In Odisha, the BJP has retained Bolangir MP Sangeeta Kumari Singh Deo, who hails from the Patnagarh-Bolangir royal family.

Three-time MP and BJP leader Dushyant Singh is once again in the fray from Rajasthan's Jhalawar-Baran. He belongs to the royal family of Dholpur.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's descendant and BJP's Rajya Sabha MP Udayanraj Bhosale is contesting the elections from Satara in Maharashtra on a BJP ticket. Bhosale had won the seat on NCP ticket in 2019. Later resigned and joined BJP but lost the by-election. Then he was sent to Rajya Sabha.
