He defeated the hardliner Jalili and after the death of Ibrahim Raisi, presidential elections were held in Iran and Pajeshkian got 1.63 million votes while his rival Saeed Jalili got 1.35 million votes. Pajeshkian defeated Jalili by a margin of 28 lakh votes. Pajeshkian is a former health minister and heart surgeon by profession. He is counted among those leaders of the country who have been present in the political corridors for a long time. Now according to the election results, out of 3 crore votes, Dr. Masoud Pajeshkian got 53.3 percent votes, while his rival Jalili got 44.3 percent votes.
Pajeshkian was born on 29 September 1954 in Mahabad, northwestern Iran.
Pazeshkian speaks the Azeri language and has long focused on the affairs of Iran's vast minority ethnic groups. Like many, he served in the Iran-Iraq War. Medical teams were sent to the battlefield. Protests took place across the country after Mahsa's death. Pajeshkian said that we will respect the hijab law, but there should never be any interference or inhuman treatment of women.
The new President is a heart surgeon by profession
He is a heart surgeon and serves as the head of the Tabriz University of Medical Sciences named after Pezeshkian. His wife Fatemeh Majidi and a daughter died in a car accident in 1994. After this, the doctor did not remarry and raised the remaining two sons and a daughter alone.
It is noteworthy that the first phase of the presidential election in Iran was held on June 28. No candidate could cross the majority mark, after which the second election was held on July 5. According to the Constitution of Iran, if no one gets a majority in the first round, then voting takes place between the top two candidates. In the first phase, Pajeshkian got 42.5 percent votes and Jalili got 38.8 percent votes.
