Sunny Deol defeated Sunil Jakhar. Sunil Jakhar is now the state president of Punjab BJP.

Babbu has been MLA for three consecutive terms

Dinesh Singh Babbu is a local leader. The special thing is that he has won the assembly elections three times in a row. In 2007, BJP gave him the assembly ticket for the first time. For the first time, Dinesh Singh defeated Congress candidate Raghunath Sahay Puri from Sujanpur Assembly.

Babbu had defeated Naresh Puri in the 2012 Lok Sabha elections and Amit Singh Mantu in 2017. But in the 2022 assembly elections, Dinesh Singh Babbu had to face defeat at the hands of Congress candidate Naresh Puri on Sujanpur seat.

People were angry with Sunny Deol

People of Pathankot and Gurdaspur were angry with Sunny Deol. The reason for this was that Sunny Deol had kept distance from the parliamentary constituency. BJP has always fielded famous faces from here. But this time due to people's resentment, the party gave a chance to a local face.

Before Sunny Deol, BJP has fielded actor Vinod Khanna here. This time there was talk of cricketer Yuvraj Singh contesting elections from this seat on BJP ticket. But later Yuvraj Singh denied these reports.

When Vinod Khanna broke the magic of Congress

Gurdaspur is named after Mahant Gurudas. This Lok Sabha seat covers 9 assembly constituencies of Gurdaspur and Pathankot districts. Congress had a strong hold on this Lok Sabha seat. But in 1998, BJP destroyed the fort of Congress by fielding actor Vinod Khanna for election campaign for the first time.

Vinod Khanna has won the MP election from here four times. But after his death in 2017, by-election was held on Gurdaspur Lok Sabha seat. In this, BJP played the gamble of golden salary. Whereas Congress had given ticket to veteran leader Sunil Jakhar. Sunil Jakhar won the by-election. Deol had defeated Sunil Jakhar in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
