US elections 2024: Voting for the presidential elections has started in America. This time America is going to get its 47th President. Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris are face to face.
Although the elections are being held today (November 5), it may take several months for the results to be known. It is expected that the contest is going to be very competitive in many states.
What is the process of taking oath?
If Kamala Harris wins the election, she will become the first female President of America. If Trump wins, he can become President for a second term. Anyone can win the election, but the biggest question is who will take the oath of office of the US President? So the answer is that the Chief Justice administers the oath to the US President.
While taking the oath, the President places one hand on the Bible and raises the other hand. At the end of the oath it has been said that may God help them in fulfilling this responsibility.
There are 535 electors based on the population of all 50 US states and three additional electors from the US capital, Washington, DC (District of Columbia).
Voting took place on how many seats?
The total number of seats in the US Parliament is 535, of which 435 are members of the House of Representatives (HOR) and 100 are members of the Senate. Just like there is Lok Sabha in India, similarly America also has (House of Representatives). Just like there is Rajya Sabha in our country, similarly there is Senate.
Each state has at least one or more House of Representatives according to its population, while each state has only two Senators. This means that there will be at least three electoral votes from each state in the election. To win the presidential election, candidates must secure a majority of 270 electoral votes out of a total of 538.
What will happen if the match is tied?
It should be noted that if there is a tie between the two candidates, i.e. Trump and Kamala Harris get 269-269 votes, then as per the US Constitution, there will be a contingent election.
In this election, it is the responsibility of Congress to choose the next President and Vice President of the country. In contingent elections, a state's delegation votes in the US House of Representatives and the President is elected based on the majority vote.
