A research conducted by Indian scientists has revealed that Patna district of Bihar is the most flood prone area in the country.
After this, floods caused maximum damage in Murshidabad in West Bengal and then Thane in Maharashtra.
Researchers from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi, India Meteorological Department, Pune, and IIT, Roorkee have created a new District Flood Severity Index (DFSI) to measure flood vulnerability on a district-wise basis in the country.
According to which, Patna district of Bihar has emerged as the most affected district. After which Murshidabad (West Bengal) and Thane (Maharashtra) are the second and third most flood affected areas.
After these, the districts most affected by the floods are North 24 Parganas (West Bengal), Guntur (Andhra Pradesh), Nagpur (Maharashtra), Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh), Ballia (Uttar Pradesh), East Champaran (Bihar) and East Medinipur (Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal).
