SEOUL: South Korea’s leader urged a special session of the Constitutional Court on Sunday to uphold President Yoon’s impeachment, saying, “You, Mr. Tae, solve the public’s problems.”
Prime Minister Han Dak-soo was handed over the presidency by parliament after President Yoon was impeached on Saturday. The main opposition, as well as other smaller opposition parties, said the parliament would not impeach President Han Daksu for supporting President Yun’s December 3 martial law order against Han, who was prime minister at the time.
Meanwhile, President Han spoke on the phone with US President Joe Biden and said that South Korea will maintain its foreign policy and defense policy and relations between the two countries will continue to grow.
In his reply, Joe Biden said that relations between the US and South Korea are close. This will increase further. The rule of law is now in place in South Korea and this process will continue to be strengthened under President Han. At the same time, both countries will continue to support each other in developing peace, security and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.
