Ranchi, 7 September (HS). Jharkhand High Court orally asked the state government that when will the farmers' fields in Palamu and Garhwa get water? When will the proposed Kanhar Barrage project report be finalized and sent to the central government so that funding can be done. The division bench of the High Court rejected the affidavit of the state government regarding asking for eight more years for the Kanhar project and said that the state government should execute the works of environmental clearance, forest clearance, land acquisition etc. of the Kanhar Barrage project as soon as possible. So that funds can be obtained from the central government.
After hearing on Saturday, the division bench directed the state government to file a reply within a week and said that if the government's reply is not accurate then the Chief Secretary will have to appear in the court. The division bench verbally said that this PIL has been going on since 2009 but despite this there has been no progress. Earlier the case was stuck regarding Kanhar Dam and Kanhar Barrage. Money was also wasted but the progress of the work of Kanhar Barrage is still the same.
A public interest litigation has been filed in the High Court by MLA Bhanu Pratap Shahi, requesting the construction of Kanhar Barrage to provide water to the people of Garhwa and Palamu.
