IMD weather forecast: On one hand, there is severe heat in some parts of the country, while at some places there is unseasonal rain due to changes in the environment. Now the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has given the forecast and date of when monsoon will hit the country. The Meteorological Department said on Wednesday that the southwest monsoon is likely to reach Kerala around May 31. Monsoon likely to reach Kerala on this date
According to the estimates of the Meteorological Department, this year the South-West Monsoon is likely to reach Kerala around May 31 with a lag of 4 days. This date serves as an important indicator of the progress of monsoon across the country. It is noteworthy that North India, which is suffering from scorching heat, is eagerly waiting for the monsoon. “It is not early, but it is close to the normal date as the normal date of onset of monsoon season in Kerala is June 1,” IMD Director General Mrityunjay Mahapatra said on Wednesday.
IMD had predicted more rain than normal
It is noteworthy that last month the IMD had predicted more than normal rainfall in the south-west during the monsoon season running from June to September. June and July are considered to be the most important monsoon months for agriculture as most of the Kharif crops are sown during this period. Apart from this, IMD further said that 'its predictions regarding the onset date of monsoon in Kerala have proved correct in the last 19 years except 2015.
