Amavasya Tithi of Kartik month will start at 2:52 PM on Thursday, 31 October 2024 and end at 6:16 PM on the next day, Friday, 1 November. There is confusion as both days are Amavasya Tithi. But performing Diwali puja during Pradosh period is considered auspicious.
Amavasya Tithi will end before Pradosh Kaal starts on 1st November. Therefore, it was unanimously decided by the scholars that celebrating Diwali on 31st October would be auspicious and as per the scriptures. Lakshmi worship will also be done on this day.
The festival of Diwali is celebrated on Pradosh Kaal and midnight. But Udayatithi is valid for bathing, alms, tarpan and fasting etc. In such a situation, Friday 1st November 2024 will be an auspicious day for bathing in the holy river, donations and tarpan for ancestors etc. Apart from this, Mahavir Swami Nirvana Day will also be celebrated on this day.
