When the Protem Speaker became the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, this happened 3 times, it will be repeated again

Lok Sabha Pro Tem Speaker: President Draupadi Murmu has appointed Bhratruhari Mahtab, MP from Cuttack, Odisha as the Protem Speaker. He has won the Lok Sabha elections for the seventh time. The primary function of the Protem Speaker is to administer oath to the new parliaments and conduct the election of the Speaker. But do you know that it has happened three times in India when a person who was the Protem Speaker has got the chair of Lok Sabha Speaker. Ganesh Vasudev Mavalankar, Hukam Singh and Somnath Chatterjee became the Speaker of the Lok Sabha from the Protem Speaker. In such a situation, speculations are being made whether Bhratruhari Mahtab will also become the Speaker of the Lok Sabha.

Who is made the Protem Speaker?

According to sources, the Protem Speaker is selected on the basis of seniority. This seniority is determined on two bases. If an MP wins the most number of times consecutively, then he is given the first chance. The second chance given to the most senior MP includes the tenure of both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

Ganesh Vasudev Mavalankar was the first leader to become the Speaker of the Lok Sabha

In 1952, the first general election was held in the country in which the Congress party got an absolute majority. When the pro tem speaker was chosen to administer oath to the MPs, G.V. Mavalankar was given this responsibility. When the time came to elect the speaker, the Congress proposed only his name. In this way, Mavalankar became the first Lok Sabha Speaker of the country. At that time, he was an MP from Ahmedabad Lok Sabha seat. After this, he remained the Speaker of the Lok Sabha till 1956.

Sardar Hukam Singh's luck also shone

Sardar Hukam Singh, a strong leader of Punjab, also became the Speaker of Lok Sabha from the Protem Speaker. In fact, when Mavalankar died in 1956, Hukam Singh was given the responsibility of running the House as the Protem Speaker for some time.

Then in 1957 Lok Sabha elections were held and Hukam Singh became the Deputy Speaker. In 1962, Congress proposed his name for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker. Hukam Singh remained in this post till 1967. After stepping down from the post of Lok Sabha Speaker, Hukam Singh left active politics. Later the President made him the Governor of Rajasthan.

Somnath Chatterjee also became the Protem Speaker

In 2004, the Sonia Gandhi-led UPA coalition defeated the NDA. At that time, the CPM was the second largest party after the Congress. However, they refused to join the government. After this, the Congress offered the post of Speaker to the CPM.

Before the Speaker election, when it was time to appoint the Protem Speaker, the Lok Sabha Secretariat announced the name of Somnath Chatterjee. After administering oath to all the MPs, Congress had proposed the name of Somnath Chatterjee. All the forces supported the Congress proposal. After which Chatterjee was elected Speaker.

Bhratruhari Mahtab, MP from Cuttack, Odisha has been made the Speaker of the 18th Lok Sabha. His responsibility is to elect the Speaker and administer oath to the MPs. But the big question is whether he can have the charisma of Ganesh Vasudev Malvankar, Sardar Hukam Singh and Somnath Chatterjee.

Why is there a heavy burden on Speaker Reshma Mehtab?

1. In the BJP government, Lok Sabha Speakers have been elected from Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. In such a situation, it is believed that under the expansion policy, the party can make someone from Orissa the Speaker this time.

2. BJP has won 20 out of 21 Lok Sabha seats in Odisha. Mahtab has come from another Janata Dal. In 1998, Naveen Patnaik gave him the responsibility of Cuttack, the party's safest seat. He has been winning elections from this seat for the last seven times. There is a possibility that Mahtab will be made the speaker to win over the BJD voters.

3. Mahtab's image has been clean during his parliamentary work. He also received the Best MP award in 2018. There are no major allegations against him in his political career. This matter is also in his favor.
