When the angry mob did not allow the minister to go to the collector's office, the minister ran away naked shouting slogans – News India Live

Lok Sabha Elections 2024: As the Lok Sabha elections are approaching, the issues surrounding the elections and the controversies and leaders are coming to light. One such incident happened when the mob became so angry with the minister that they did not even allow him to enter the District Collector's office to file his nomination and even tore his clothes.

Due to this VP Singh's government fell

It is about 1991 when the elections for the 10th Lok Sabha in the country were to be held in May-June. This was a mid-term election because after the elections held in December 1989, VP Singh had formed the National Front government with the help of BJP. This government was under the leadership of Janata Dal. After implementing the recommendations of the Mandal Commission and giving 27 percent reservation to OBCs, BJP started a movement for the construction of Ram Temple across the country. The then BJP President Lal Krishna Advani had taken out Ram Rath Yatra from Somnath to Ayodhya. When Advani's yatra reached Samastipur in Bihar, Lalu Yadav's Janata Dal government arrested the BJP leader. Troubled by this, BJP targeted the Janata Dal led central government i.e. VP Singh government and withdrew its support. Due to this, VP Singh's government fell.

Congress withdrew support on the allegation

After this, Chandrashekhar became Prime Minister in November 1990 with the support of Congress and leftist parties. It is noteworthy that just a few days ago, Chandrashekhar had separated from Janata Dal and formed a new Samajwadi Janata Party with 64 MPs. Chandrashekhar's government had just completed three months and 24 days when Congress, which had been supporting the government from outside, withdrew its support accusing former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi of espionage. Due to this, the Chandrashekhar government lost its majority and on 6 March 1991, Chandrashekhar resigned from the post of Prime Minister. After this, the election bugle sounded for the tenth Lok Sabha in the country.

People tore Hukumdev's clothes

Among those who left Janata Dal and joined Samajwadi Janata Party along with Chandrashekhar was Hukumdev Narayan Yadav, who was elected MP from Sitamarhi, Bihar in 1989. Chandrashekhar made Yadav the Textile Minister. However, when elections were held again in 1991, Hukumdev Narayan Yadav again came to file his nomination papers from Sitamarhi seat, but he had to face huge public opposition and anger in the Collectorate premises itself. It is also said that people were so angry with Yadav at that time that they did not allow him to enter the District Collector's office to file his nomination and even tore his clothes. The crowd of people even removed his dhoti. During this, people raised slogans that 'When public enthusiasm was aroused, the Textile Minister of India ran away naked.'

People were angry with Hukumdev Yadav due to this also

Actually, people were angry with Hukumdev Narayan Yadav because after winning in 1989 and moving to Delhi, he had forgotten his parliamentary constituency. Two years ago, when he contested elections on Janata Dal ticket, people gave him full support. Then Yadav got a total of 3 lakh 35 thousand 796 votes. He defeated veteran Congress leader and three-time MP Nagendra Yadav in the elections.
