In the world of Sanatan culture and craftsmanship, Lord Vishwakarma is considered to be the world’s first architect, craftsman and creator of the universe, without whose grace no construction work, spare parts, machine or factory can be imagined. Every year, the birth anniversary of Lord Vishwakarma is celebrated with great pomp and devotion on the auspicious occasion of Kanya Sankranti, which is also known as Vishwakarma Puja (Vishwakarma Jayanti 2026) or Labor Day. On this day, in factories, factories, industries, workshops, offices and homes across the country, special worship is done for all those tools, machines, vehicles and equipment which are the main basis of our livelihood and technological development. Those entrepreneurs, traders, artisans and workers who worship Lord Vishwakarma with all the rituals on this day with true heart, their business grows by leaps and bounds and all their equipment and machines remain safe. Tremendous enthusiasm is being seen among the artisans and businessmen regarding this holy festival of Vishwakarma Puja in the year 2026, and people have already started preparing for it so that they can please their adored deity with full devotion.
According to mythology, Lord Vishwakarma, along with the creation of this universe, had created for the gods the golden Lanka, the city of Dwarka, the city of Indraprastha, the palaces of the heavenly world and great weapons like Lord Shiva’s Trishul and Lord Vishnu’s Sudarshan Chakra. It is believed in the Sanatan tradition that Lord Vishwakarma is the original guru and source of inspiration for all the types of construction work, craftsmanship, engineering and technical inventions that have taken place in the world. This is the reason that on this special day, not only idols are worshipped, but the tools, computers, laptops, heavy machines of factories, vehicles and weapons used in our daily lives are cleaned and worshiped with Roli, Moli, Akshat, flowers and incense sticks. This festival teaches us that it is our biggest duty to express gratitude towards the objects and tools which make our labor easier and become a source of our livelihood.
To perform the worship of Lord Vishwakarma as per the rituals, some special worship materials are required, which are very important to be collected before the worship. Vishwakarma Puja Samagri List mainly includes the picture or idol of Lord Vishwakarma, a chowki or pata for puja, red or yellow clean cloth, Gangajal, Roli, Akshat (whole rice), Kalava or Mauli, sandalwood, incense sticks, incense sticks, pure ghee lamp, camphor, fresh flowers and flower garlands. Apart from this, special arrangements of seasonal fruits, sweets, Panjiri or Panchamrit are made as Bhog. For the worship of machines and tools, turmeric, kumkum, akshat, kalava, mustard oil, and some flowers are required, so that the machines and vehicles of the factories can be duly worshiped by making the Swastika symbol and they can be kept safe.
On the day of Vishwakarma Jayanti, wake up early in the morning, take bath, wear clean clothes and thoroughly clean your workplace, factory, office or house of worship. First of all, install the idol or picture of Lord Vishwakarma on a pedestal by spreading a red or yellow colored cloth and light a lamp of pure ghee and incense in front of it. After this, purify the Lord by sprinkling Ganga water and offer him Roli, Akshat, flowers, sandalwood and Kalava. Now purify all the tools, equipment, machines, computers and vehicles related to your livelihood by sprinkling Ganga water on them and make the Swastika symbol on them with kumkum or turmeric. After this, tie Mauli (Kalava) on all the instruments and offer flowers and Akshat and remember the mantras of Lord Vishwakarma. At the end of the puja, sing the Aarti of Lord Vishwakarma along with the family or all the employees of the factory and offer sweets and fruits to him, which can then be distributed among all the people as Prasad.
Today’s modern era is completely based on technology, artificial intelligence, software, automation and big machines, where every person is connected to technical devices in some form or the other. In such a situation, this worship of Lord Vishwakarma is no longer just a traditional ritual, but it is a symbol of the fact that we should respect our technology and labour. When an engineer, mechanic, driver, IT professional or any worker worships his work equipment, a sense of honesty, loyalty and security towards his work is awakened within him. Vishwakarma Jayanti reminds us that the glory of labor is the greatest worship and our art and intelligence are the only means to take this society forward, hence we should keep moving forward on our path of work with full devotion.
