Story of Saphala Ekadashi

In ancient times, King Mahishmat used to rule in Champavati city. The king had 4 sons, among them Lumpak was very wicked and sinful. He used to waste his father’s money on immorality. One day the king became unhappy and exiled him, but still he did not give up his habit of plundering. Once he did not get food or drink for 3 days. Meanwhile, while roaming around, he reached a monk’s hut. Luckily that day was Saphala Ekadashi.

Mahatma welcomed him and provided him food. This behavior of the Mahatma changed his mind. He fell at the feet of the sage. The monk made him his disciple and gradually Luke’s character became pure. With the permission of the Mahatma, he started fasting on Ekadashi. When he was completely transformed, the Mahatma showed him his true form. His father himself was standing in front of him in the guise of a Mahatma. Then Lumpak assumed the throne and set an example and started fasting on Saphala Ekadashi throughout his life.
