'When I called, he was angry, did not talk properly…', RCB's big clarification on not retaining Chahal – News India Live

Yuzvendra Chahal, RCB : Royal Challengers Bangalore did not retain spinner Yuzvendra Chahal in IPL 2022 and sent him in the mega auction. This is the most shocking decision so far. Because Chahal is India's most successful bowler in IPL and T20I cricket. No one ever gave any explanation as to why RCB did this. But before IPL 2024, former RCB cricket director Mike Hesson has made many revelations regarding this. “A personal call was made to Chahal to explain the reason behind his release,” he said. He was upset and had no interest in conversation.

When I called Chahal he was upset – Mike Hesson

Hesson said, “We wanted to buy Chahal by making a big bid in the auction. I know this because I was with the team through all this planning. I remember when I called Chahal later, he was upset. It was very difficult at that time to try to explain to them the dynamics of the auction. Chahal was very sad and it is natural for this to happen. He was one of the most important players of RCB and was not retained. But I can assure everyone that he was well aware of the problems we were facing at that time.”

Despite being one of the best players, he could not make it to the list of marquee players.

Hesson further added, “I spoke to Chahal when we did the initial retention and we retained only three players because we felt we wanted to try to buy back both Harshal Patel and Chahal in the auction. But the mega auction made the matter a little complicated. Despite being one of the best players in the IPL, he could not make it to the list of marquee players. His name came after 64 players in the auction. This meant that it was really difficult for us to guarantee whether we would buy it or not. For this reason, Harshal was bought by RCB, but Chahal was bought by Rajasthan Royals. In his place, RCB included Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga in its team.
