News India Live, Digital Desk: Former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and controversy-ridden Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh remains in the news for his politics and wrestling related issues, but now his son and BJP MLA Prateek Bhushan Singh Has opened a front on a completely new, but big issue. He has raised a strong voice against the proposed rules of the University Grants Commission (UGC).

Prateek Bhushan Singh has said that the new rules that UGC is preparing to bring regarding higher education will make the rules complex and contradictory, which will cause huge loss to the students.

What is the MLA’s complaint?

Prateek Bhushan is BJP MLA from Sadar Assembly seat of Gonda. He himself is also associated with the education sector, as he also has an educational institute (Degree College/Education Society) in Gonda. His allegation is on the provision of UGC which states that four-year graduate students will be able to directly enroll in PhD.

  • Duplicity: He described these rules as ‘double standards’ and said that these rules are contrary to the existing educational structure in the country.
  • Future of students: He believes that these changes will create confusion for lakhs of students regarding admission and they will find it difficult to make educational plans.

Why protest despite being in power?

It is interesting to see that Prateek Bhushan Singh, himself an MLA from the ruling party BJP, is commenting so strongly on the policies of the UGC (which works under the Union Education Ministry). This shows how serious this issue has become regarding the future of higher education in a state like Uttar Pradesh.

His comment gives strength not only to his political opponents but also to people like Kumar Vishwas, who had already raised voice against these rules.

MLA Prateek Bhushan Singh has demanded that before implementing these rules, UGC should conduct a round of meetings with educational institutions and students and find a fair and transparent solution to the existing problems.
