Wheat lying under the open sky in Jagraon Mandi was hit by rain, farmers worried due to water filling in tanks

Jagraon: In Asia's second largest Jagraon Mandi, wheat sold and unsold under the open sky was hit by a disaster today. There was chaos in Jagraon Mandi due to sudden heavy rain for some time on Friday evening. In this hurry, farmers, laborers and farmers guarding the wheat in the market were busy trying to save the wheat from rain. But despite this, a large amount of wheat was washed away due to heavy rains.

During his visit to Jagraon Mandi, he observed that although most of the wheat heaps were covered with tarpaulins, due to rain the wheat under the tarpaulins got wet. Same was the condition of wheat sacks purchased by procurement agencies and traders in the market. The wheat sacks got wet due to the rain and at many places rain water was floating under these sacks. As soon as the rain stopped, farmers along with laborers started saving their hard-earned wheat from rain water.

Due to water logging at many places in the market, workers were removing water. Apart from this, farmers also have to struggle with laborers to dry the wheat soaked by rain. On this occasion, the farmers said that there was rain and hailstorm for some time, but this rain did not even give an opportunity to cover the wheat with tarpaulin to protect it from water. Due to which today most of the wheat in the market got affected by the rain. At this time, Jagraon Market Committee Secretary Kanwalpreet Singh Kalsi said that there was no damage to the crop due to today's rain. Due to bad weather, crops were covered and wherever there was flood, water was removed. He said that till now 42414 quintals of wheat has arrived in Jagraon Mandi, out of which 32814 quintals of wheat has been purchased.
