Why is ID proof necessary with e-ticket?

As per Indian Railways rules, if you are traveling by e-ticket, it is mandatory to carry a valid ID proof.

• Without ID: TTE may treat you as a ticketless passenger.
• In such a situation you will be fined, and TTE also has the right to remove you from the train.

What will happen without ID proof?

1. If you have booked an e-ticket but do not have ID proof with you, the Railways will consider you as a ticketless passenger.
2. Result:
   • Fine will be imposed.
   • Your seat will be cancelled.
   • It may be difficult to continue the journey.

How much fine will there be?

The fine is decided by TTE depending on your travel class:

• AC Class: Fine of ₹440.
• Sleeper class: Fine of ₹220.
• Apart from this, you also have to pay the ticket price.

You will not get a seat even after paying the fine

Even if you pay the fine, your seat will be considered cancelled.

• E-ticket is canceled by TTE.
• Despite paying the fine you will not get a seat.
• If a seat is not available, you may be asked to deboard the train.

Special rules for senior citizens

It is also mandatory for senior citizens to carry ID proof proving their age.

• Without ID, their e-ticket will also be considered invalid.
