What will be the impact on banking services with the beginning of 2025?

The year 2024 is about to end, and 2025 will begin with many new changes. One of the important questions is 1 January 2025 Will there be bank holiday or not? However, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has not yet released its official holiday list for 2025, due to which there is confusion among the people.

January 1, 2025: Will banks remain closed or open?

  • Leave Status:
    Banks are likely to remain closed in most states of the country on the occasion of New Year on January 1, 2025.
  • Not a Gadgeted Holiday:
    This day is not a gazetted holiday, but a registered holiday. This means that banks will not remain closed across the country.
  • States to remain closed:
    Depending on the holidays in 2024, banks are expected to remain closed in places like Aizawl, Chennai, Gangtok, Imphal, Itanagar, Kohima and Kolkata.
  • Advice for customers:
    Confirm the status of holidays by contacting your local branch of your bank.

Online banking services will remain operational

Even if banks remain closed in your area on January 1, there is no need to worry.

  • Online Services:
    • Mobile banking and internet banking services will continue to operate as usual.
    • Customers can avail online transactions, fund transfers, and other services.
  • ATM Services:
    • ATM services will be available normally.
    • Use ATM for cash withdrawal during holidays.

31 December 2024: Banks will remain closed in these states

New Year’s Eve on the occasion of, Mizoram And Sikkim Banks will remain closed on 31 December 2024.

  • There is a possibility of opening of banks in other states.
  • Customers are advised to settle all their important banking transactions well in advance.
