Mythological story related to Bilvapatra
According to Shiv Puran, the world was in danger due to the poison that came out of the churning of the ocean. Therefore, to protect the universe, Lord Shiva wore that poison around his neck. Due to this, the temperature of Shiva's body started increasing and the entire universe started burning like fire.
Due to which the life of all creatures on earth became difficult. For the benefit of the creation, to remove the effect of poison, the gods gave Bilvapatra to Lord Shiva. By eating Bilvapatra, the effect of poison was reduced, hence the tradition of offering Bilvapatra to Lord Shiva started.
