Since then train coaches are being manufactured here. The blue coaches manufactured by Integral Coach Factory are made of iron. Air brakes are used in these coaches. Let us tell you that the maximum permissible speed of these coaches is only 110 km per hour.
Such coaches have 72 seats in the sleeper class while the AC-3 class has 64 seats. Coaches manufactured in the Integral Coach Factory require periodic overhauling (POH) once in 18 months. Due to this, the maintenance cost of this coach is high. The ride index of this coach is 3.25. These coaches are connected to each other through a double buffer system and during an accident, there is a danger that such coaches can roll over each other, increasing the chances of an accident.
Linke Hoffman Busch (LHB)
Let us tell you that the Link Hoffman Bush coach was brought to India from Germany in the year 2000. The factory to make this coach is in Kapurthala, Punjab. Such coaches are made of stainless steel and use disc brakes, the coach is equipped with a center buffer cowling system, due to which the coaches do not climb on each other during an accident. These coaches require overhauling once in 24 months, due to which their maintenance cost is low. Its rider index is 2.5-2.75. The maximum permissible speed of these coaches is 200 kmph and the working speed is 160 kmph. Let us tell you that this coach has 80 seats in the sleeper class while the AC-3 class has 72 seats.
Which coach is better?
By now you must have guessed that Linke Hoffman Busch coaches are better than Integral Coach Factory coaches. LHB coaches are 1.7 meters longer than ICF coaches, giving them more seating space. The red coloured LHB coaches are also faster. Also, these coaches are made of stainless steel and are therefore lighter than ICF coaches. Even in case of an accident, the red coloured coaches are safer than the blue coloured coaches.
