The much-awaited Hockey India League (HIL) will return after 7 years from December 28 in a new format in which both men's and women's teams will participate. Eight teams will participate in the men's competition while six teams will participate in the women's competition. Women's competition is being organized for the first time. The league will be organized from December 28 to February 1 at two venues, Rourkela and Ranchi. The men's event will be played in Rourkela while the women's event will be played in Ranchi.
When will the players auction take place?
The auction of players for the league will take place from October 13 to 15. A total of 10 franchise owners will gather for this. The players will be auctioned in three categories: Rs. 2 lakh, Rs. 5 lakh and Rs. 10 lakhs. The return of the Hockey India League is not only an important step in the history of hockey in the country but is also important for the promotion of women's hockey. Starting a women's league for the first time will provide a platform to women hockey players to showcase their talent.
What is the master plan of Hockey India?
Hockey India League (HIL) will start from December 2024. Before this, the auction of players is to be held between 13th and 15th October. Meanwhile, Hockey India has taken a big step. According to the report of Times of India, a total of Rs 3640 crore will be spent on HIL in the next 10 years. For this, Hockey India itself will invest Rs 112 crore every year. HI does not want this league to be closed like last time.
Thus Hockey India spent a total of Rs. An investment of Rs 1120 crore has been promised. The remaining Rs 2520 crore will be spent by the franchise. According to the report, an agreement has also been reached for this. It will promote hockey in India, create new infrastructure and provide a platform for players to connect with the game. Auction in HIL
This time HIL will consist of 8 men's and 6 women's teams and the league will start on 28th December, while its final match will be played on 5th February. Whereas the final of the women's event will be held on 26 January 2025. All the matches of the league will be played in Rourkela and Ranchi. This time, like IPL, there will be an auction of players in this league too. Each team will have to prepare a squad of 24 players each. For this, the base price of players has been kept at Rs 2 lakh, 5 lakh and 10 lakh. Players have the freedom to choose their base price. Like IPL, bidding will start from the base price for each player.
