Indigo vs Mahindra: A dispute has erupted between the country’s largest airlines company and the SUV manufacturer regarding these two alphanumeric numbers ‘6E’. A legal battle has erupted between airlines company Indigo and Mahindra Electric Automobile over 6E. The matter has reached Delhi Court. If you’re wondering what’s going on in 6E, there’s a clash between two big companies. Let us tell you that Mahindra has launched its new electric vehicle ‘BE 6e’. 6E has been used in the name of the car, on which Indigo has objected. IndiGo says Mahindra has filed a trademark infringement suit using ‘BE 6E’.
Indigo’s logic
IndiGo says it has been using ‘6E’ as its identity for the last 18 years. 6E is its call sign, by which it operates its flights. The airline says 6E is the backbone of its branding and passenger services. IndiGo registered ‘6E Link’ in multiple trademark categories in 2015.
Mahindra’s own logic
Mahindra launched two cars on 26 November. Born electric and SUVs XEV 9E and BE 6e. The delivery of these cars will start from the year 2025, but this car has been surrounded in controversies since its launch. The company has filed an application with the Registrar of Trademarks for registration of ‘BE 6E’ mark under Class 12. After this registration, Mahindra will get the right to use ‘6E’ for electric and combustion engine vehicles.
Indigo said that it does not see any dispute in this matter. He said the company’s logo is ‘BE 6E’, not 6E. Their brand is different from Indigo’s ‘6E’. The 6E of IndiGo represents the airline. There is no scope for confusion in their branding. IndiGo is in touch to resolve the dispute amicably.
Indigo has already approached the court
This is the second time that IndiGo is in a legal battle with a company over the name. In 2015, Indigo also had a trademark dispute with Tata Motors. At that time Tata Motors was selling one of its sedan cars under the name Indigo. Even before this, Indigo was embroiled in a legal dispute with Tata Motors regarding the name. In the year 2015, Tata Motors sold one of its sedan cars named ‘Indigo’.
Indigo took Tata to court
This is not the first case. Earlier, Indigo had also dragged Tata to court for trademark. Actually, in the year 2025, Tata had launched one of its cars in the name of Indigo. Indigo dragged Tata to court regarding this sedan car. Later Tata had to change the name.
