Many refugees had the highest rates of depression and anxiety in the first years after resettlement in the United States, according to a paper in the Journal of the American Heart Association.
These rates have decreased in subsequent years. This anxiety can cause night terrors, which can lead to cardiac events, which can ultimately kill vulnerable individuals. These events are caused by dreams that occur while sleeping at night.
It is unclear, and not actually known, whether these reported cases were the result of dreams in which they saw their own deaths.
However, according to science, there is some connection between parasomnias (sleep-related disorders) like panic attacks at night and sudden death during sleep.
