Moscow, Kazan: Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to meet several top leaders including Chinese President Xi Jinping, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Turkey's Erdogan and Iran's Massoud Pezhevskian on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan. Therefore, the West's ploy to declare Putin a pariah in the international arena because of the Ukraine war and the arrest warrant issued against him has failed.
The BRICS grouping (BRICH) of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa was established as a counterbalance to the global order organized by the West. Its place of origin is India. Following India's efforts, Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia joined this group in January. Türkiye, Azerbaijan and Malaysia have also written letters formalizing the merger. Apart from this, formal letters have also been sent to other countries. He has also expressed his desire to become a member of this group.
Russian officials are calling the BRICS summit a major success. Putin's foreign policy advisor Puri Ushakov said that out of the 36 countries taking part in this conference, presidents of 20 countries are going to attend.
During this conference, Putin is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with 20 leaders. Ushakov told reporters that the summit would be the largest foreign policy event ever held on Russian soil.
Putin is scheduled to meet UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Thursday as part of the summit. He is a well-known critic of Russia's war with Ukraine.
