Antigua, November 21 (HS). West Indies head coach Andre Cole on Wednesday said they need to put behind their disappointing home Test series against South Africa and end the year on a winning note. The West Indies team is set to face Bangladesh in a two-match Test series starting from November 22 in Antigua.

Even though it is part of the World Test Championship, this series does not matter much for both the teams as Bangladesh and West Indies are currently placed eighth and ninth in the WTC standings with a points percentage of 27.50 and 18.52 respectively. However, the hosts will be looking to end the year on a winning note, with their only Test success being a 1-1 drawn series against Australia.

After the series against Australia, the West Indies team lost its rhythm as they suffered three consecutive defeats against England, but they performed better against South Africa as they managed to draw the opening test and lost the second test. The team lost by 40 runs, which according to Kohli is a big disappointment.

“It is very important to end the year with a win because there was disappointment from all sides in the South Africa series,” Kohli said before the first match of the series against Bangladesh.

“Earlier, the first three or four days were disrupted due to rain and since then we have been able to play some good sessions on the ground in Antigua and everyone is in good spirits and everyone is fit and available. It is very important for us to get a result with a win on home soil before going to Pakistan… This is the last four Test matches in this edition of the World Test Championship, for us to do well here, win the series and before going to Pakistan It is very important to get the rhythm.”

West Indies fast bowler Alzarri Joseph, who was rested for the series against South Africa to manage his workload, is back for the home two-Test series against Bangladesh. However, the hosts will miss the services of all-rounder Jason Holder in the series as he is recovering from a shoulder injury.

“Every player has an opportunity,” Corey said. We have players who have played in both home and away series against Bangladesh and have been successful and have won those series. You know the players are familiar with each other and we also have some new players who have not played any of those series.”

He said, “It is an opportunity for the senior players and the emerging players, you know what we are capable of as a team and we continue to build and build everything together based on the performance of the last year and a half And like we said we want to finish this year in really good form.”
