Thimphu: When Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived on Friday morning on a two-day official visit to Bhutan, he was given a warm welcome at Paro airport. Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay warmly welcomed Narendra Modi and hugged him. Earlier he had written in his post. Welcome to Bhutan. My elder brother Narendra Modi ji also shared a picture of Prime Minister Modi shaking hands with the King of Bhutan and Bill Ward. The Prime Minister of India, who reached Paro Airport, was welcomed with a red carpet. The entire airport was decorated with colorful flowers. Modi was also given a guard of honor by the Bhutanese armed forces. A red carpet was laid. On both sides of it were pictures depicting the culture of Bhutan. The airport as well as the entire route from Paro to Thimphu was decorated with colorful flags of Bhutan and India. School children on both sides of the road welcomed him with colorful flags in their hands. Now agreements are to be made between the two countries in many different areas.
Prime Minister Modi greeted those who welcomed him by greeting with both hands. Observers say that China's praise for Bhutan, which was once close to China, was irritating him. Unable to advance towards India at the trijunction in the Doklam valley, the Chinese army has pressed some of its strategic areas towards Bhutan. Moreover, Bhutan now feels India as its protector as China has started to settle its villages across the border in the north of Bhutan. So it has naturally shifted from China back to India. And Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, a staunch communist, has also made a similar betrayal with Nepal and turned towards India.
Sri Lanka also had to get a taste of China by shutting down any new operations in its southern port of Humbertota for a year. China has been stopped from moving forward. When India supports that survey, then the trend of those surveys is towards India. Modi government's Neighbor First and Look East policy is proving fruitful. India has always been helpful to neighboring countries. Neighboring countries know this. He has also experienced it. Several agreements were signed when Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobagy visited India for a five-day visit last week. This was Tobgay's first foreign visit after assuming office in January.
