The changed weather patterns in the hilly states have sounded the alarm of the onset of winter across North India. Due to the fresh snowfall in the upper areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand and the activity of Western Disturbance, a white sheet of snow has been spread on the mountains. Its direct impact is now visible on the plain states also. Shivering with cold winds has increased in the morning and evening in many parts of Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan. The Meteorological Department has given clear indications that there may be a big drop in the minimum temperature by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius in the coming days, in such a situation people have been advised to remove warm clothes, blankets and quilts from sunlight.
Intermittent snowfall has been recorded on the high peaks of Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Pahalgam and Pir Panjal in Jammu and Kashmir, due to which the temperature has dropped below zero. On the other hand, due to accumulation of thick layer of snow in Rohtang Pass, Lahaul-Spiti, upper areas of Manali and Kinnaur of Himachal Pradesh, the faces of tourists have brightened up, although the impact of cold on local life has started deepening. The first heavy snowfall of the season on the Chardham region of Uttarakhand – Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham and on the mountains of Auli, has engulfed the entire region in the grip of cold wave. The icy north-westerly winds coming from the mountains have moved towards the plains, due to which the moisture and coldness present in the atmosphere has suddenly increased.
The dry and cold winds blowing from the mountains have started having the strongest impact on the plains of the country.
-
Delhi-NCR: A rapid drop in morning and late night temperatures is being recorded in the National Capital Region, along with light mist and fog cover has also started appearing in the morning.
-
Uttar Pradesh (Lucknow, Kanpur, Prayagraj): In the western and central districts of the state, the temperature is dropping significantly as the evening approaches, due to which the use of fans and ACs is on the verge of being stopped.
-
Punjab and Haryana: In these agricultural states, minimum night temperatures are being recorded below normal and dew and coolness are being felt in the morning in rural areas.
-
Bihar and Rajasthan: The nights have started getting cold in the desert areas like Churu and Sikar of Rajasthan, while in Patna, Gaya and Bhagalpur of Bihar, pink cold has knocked in the morning and evening.
According to the Meteorological Center (IMD), a fresh western disturbance has become active over the north-western Himalayan region. Due to its effect, there is pressure of cyclonic winds, due to which there is a possibility of snowfall in the mountains as well as sporadic drizzle in the lower hilly areas and lowland areas. If there is light rain or drizzle in the plains, the coolness in the air will directly turn into severe cold. Meteorologists say that this cycle of seasonal change has become active a little earlier than usual, due to which this time the winter season in the plain states may be longer and relatively more effective.
Due to this sudden change in weather, doctors and health experts have warned people to be alert. Due to light sunshine during the day and sudden increase in cold at night, the number of patients suffering from seasonal flu, cold, viral fever and respiratory allergies may increase in hospitals. Doctors say that children and elderly people should wear light and warm clothes while walking in the morning. Apart from this, this is the right time to include lukewarm water and hot food items in the diet, so that the body can easily adjust to the changing temperatures.
