Weather Update: Summer havoc continues, Meteorological Department issues severe weather alert, possibility of rain here

Weather Update: Many parts of the country are struggling with extreme heat. In many states including West Bengal, Odisha and Jharkhand, the maximum temperature crossed 40 degrees Celsius. According to the forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), no relief is expected in these states till at least April 24.

The latest western disturbance over northwest India is likely to cause rain over other parts from Monday, April 22. On Saturday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 45.2 degrees Celsius in Baripada and Boudh of Odisha.

In West Bengal, Midnapore recorded a temperature of 44.5 degrees Celsius and Bankura recorded 44.6 degrees Celsius. The temperature in Daltonganj, Jharkhand was 43.6 degrees Celsius and in Jamshedpur it was 43.5 degrees Celsius. Whereas in Rajnandgaon of Chhattisgarh the temperature was recorded at 43 degrees Celsius.

Senior IMD scientist Naresh Kumar said that due to the ongoing heat wave in Odisha, an orange alert has been issued for Sunday and Monday. We estimate that there may be a slight drop in temperatures and after a gap of two days, Odisha will again see hit wave conditions. Heat wave will continue in Bihar for the next five days. We have predicted the heat wave to last for five days.

Heatwave occurs when the maximum temperature at a weather station reaches at least 40 °C in plains, 37 °C in coastal areas and 30 °C in hilly areas and the deviation from normal is minimal. A severe heat wave is declared when the deviation from normal temperature is more than 6.4 degrees.

IMD has predicted light rain or drizzle in Delhi on Monday, April 22. There is no chance of rain after Monday and the maximum temperature is likely to reach 40 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature in eastern Uttar Pradesh is likely to increase by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius during the next 24 hours.

No rise in maximum temperatures is expected over West India during the next two days and a rise of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius may be seen thereafter. The weather office said that there is a possibility of heat wave lasting four to eight days in different parts of the country in April, whereas heat wave usually lasts for one to three days. The heat wave is likely to last 10 to 20 days throughout the April–June period, compared to the usual four to eight days.

More fires are expected in areas of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Maharashtra, Vidarbha, Marathwada, Bihar and Jharkhand. Heat wave can last for more than 20 days in these states.

IMD said heavy rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning and gusty winds is very likely at isolated places over Northeast India till April 24. The weather office has predicted light to moderate rain with thunderstorm/lightning and gusty winds over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim till April 26, over Odisha till April 24 and over Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand till April 22 and 23.

Light to moderate thunderstorms/lightning and gusty winds are expected over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand till April 26, rain with latest western disturbance over Northwest India from April 22. / There will be impact of snowfall.

According to IMD, scattered rain with thunder/lightning and strong winds is expected over Punjab till 23 April, over Haryana and Chandigarh from 21 to 23 April, over West Rajasthan on 21 and 22 April, over East Rajasthan and Western Uttar Pradesh on 22 April. is likely to. In a mid-April update, the IMD said India will see above normal rainfall in the 2024 monsoon season, with La Nino conditions expected to be a major factor from August-September.
