The weather has once again taken a turn in the national capital Delhi and its adjoining National Capital Region (NCR). The dark clouds rising in the sky and cool monsoon winds have given great relief to crores of residents of Delhi-NCR, who have been suffering from the continuous sticky and humid heat for the last few days. Intermittent heavy and moderate rain has been witnessed in many areas of Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad including New Delhi, Central Delhi, South Delhi, Dwarka and Rohini.
Due to rain and movement of clouds, the maximum temperature of the national capital has dropped by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius, due to which the daytime weather has become quite pleasant. According to the data recorded at Safdarjung and Palam observatories, the temperature has fallen below normal. However, while on one hand this changing pattern of weather has given relief to the people from the heat, on the other hand due to waterlogging at major intersections and underpasses, daily commuters have to face the problem of traffic jams during peak hours.
Latest forecast of Meteorological Department: There will be intermittent rain for the next 5 days
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the presence of clouds will continue in Delhi-NCR for the next 4 to 5 days and light to moderate rain activities will be recorded in several phases.
Key points of the daily bulletin issued by the Meteorological Department:

Safdarjung Temperature: The maximum temperature is likely to remain around 32 to 34 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is likely to remain around 24 to 26 degrees Celsius.

Wind speed and direction: Winds will blow from south-western and western directions at a speed of 15 to 25 kilometers per hour, due to which the effect of humidity during the day will be quite less.

Daily rainfall pattern: There is a possibility of one or two rounds of light to moderate rain in the morning and afternoon and drizzle or thundershowers during late evening and night.
Why did the weather change? Combined effect of monsoon trough and Arabian Sea moisture
According to meteorologists, mainly two major weather systems (Synoptic Systems) are working behind this sudden change in weather in Delhi-NCR.
The first reason is the return of the Monsoon Trough to its normal position. This monsoon line is passing through the plains of North-West India, due to which the highly moisture-laden winds coming from both ends of the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal are condensing over Delhi and surrounding states and forming dense clouds. The second reason is the effect of a weak Western Disturbance active in the western Himalayan region, which has provided more energy to the monsoon activities in the plains.

Along with Delhi, the impact of weather is also being seen widely in satellite cities of NCR:

Noida and Greater Noida: Intermittent drizzle with dense clouds is occurring over the expressway and interior sectors. A significant improvement has been recorded in air quality (AQI) and it has fallen into the ‘satisfactory’ category between 70 and 90.

Ghaziabad: In areas like Indirapuram, Vaishali and Rajnagar Extension, rains along with cold winds have brought down the temperature significantly, which has brought vibrancy back to the local markets.

Gurugram: Light to moderate rain has been recorded in areas around Cyber City and Sohna Road. Gurugram traffic police have deployed pumping sets at waterlogging-prone intersections such as Narsinghpur and Hero Honda Chowk.

Faridabad: The weather remained extremely pleasant after the rain in BPTP and Old Faridabad areas, although slow traffic was seen near the railway underpass.
New weather system after August 20: Big spell of rain will come from Bay of Bengal
Meteorologists have indicated that another more powerful spell of rain may begin in North India after August 20. There is a strong possibility of a new low-pressure area developing in the northern part of the Bay of Bengal.
This weather system will move towards northwest India through Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. If this system turns north as predicted, then under its influence the monsoon trough will become more active. Due to this, some heavy spells of torrential rains may be seen in Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Punjab and Western Uttar Pradesh during August 21 to 25, which will prove to be helpful in making up for the rain deficiency so far this season.
Traffic and health advisory: Keep these things in mind during rainy season
Amidst this change in weather, Delhi Traffic Police and health experts have issued some important guidelines for the citizens:

Check live routes to avoid traffic jams: Before leaving home, check the latest status of waterlogging and route diversion on Google Maps or the official social media handles of Delhi Traffic Police.

Maintain a safe distance while driving: There is a risk of the vehicle slipping due to sudden braking on wet roads, hence maintain sufficient distance from the vehicle moving ahead.

Prevention from water borne diseases: Change in weather and increase in humidity increases the breeding of mosquitoes causing dengue, malaria and viral fever. Do not allow clean water to accumulate around homes, in coolers or pots and wear full sleeve clothes.

Distance from trees and electric poles: Avoid standing under old trees or dilapidated hoardings during rain and strong winds and maintain a safe distance from electrical wires and transformers.
