Weather Live Updates: Monsoon rages across the country; ‘Yellow alert’ in Delhi-NCR, ‘Red alert’ in Uttarakhand, fear of huge devastation


The South-West Monsoon has become fully active in India and has engulfed the entire country. Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) 10 July 2026 ‘High alert’ has been issued for heavy to extremely heavy rains in many states of North, Central and Eastern India.

According to IMD’s long-term forecast, although the total rainfall in the entire month of July is expected to be slightly below the long-term average (LPA) i.e. around 94%, but torrential rains at the local level can cause waterlogging in cities, floods and huge damage to standing crops. Delhi-NCR: How will the weather be in the next 48 hours?

Continuous rains in Delhi and its surrounding National Capital Region (NCR) for the last two days have changed the mood of the weather.

  • What do scientists say: Senior Scientist of IMD Delhi Dr. Naresh Yadav According to, due to active monsoon trough, intermittent rains will continue in Delhi in the coming days.

  • Friday Alert: There are chances of light to moderate rain and thundershowers in most parts of Delhi-NCR on Friday (July 10), for which the department has issued a warning. ‘Yellow Alert’ Has been released. During this period, the sky will be densely cloudy and the maximum temperature is expected to be between 34°C to 36°C.

  • Saturday forecast: Light rain may continue on Saturday also, although no special warning or alert has been issued for this.

‘Red’ and ‘Orange’ alert in Uttarakhand; Advice not to travel in the mountains

In the hilly state of Uttarakhand, the Meteorological Department has warned that extremely heavy rains will continue for the next 2 to 3 days. There is a possibility of excessive rainfall (Cloud Burst like situation) in a short time in many sensitive hilly areas.

  • Red alert of July 10: including the plains of Kumaon Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital and Champawat ‘Red Alert’ will be in effect in the districts today. People living in these districts have been advised to stay in safe places.

  • Orange Alert: of the state Bageshwar, Pauri Garhwal and capital Dehradun ‘Orange Alert’ has been issued in many central hill districts including. In view of the danger of landslides, tourists have been instructed to avoid traveling to the mountains.

  • Further situation: There will be ‘yellow alert’ in the remaining districts of the state from July 10 to 13. Light to moderate rains do not seem to be stopping in the entire state for the next 5 to 6 days.

Detailed weather condition of the country state wise

1. Northern India

Apart from Uttarakhand, monsoon is also progressing at full speed in the neighboring states of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab and Haryana. Heavy to very heavy rain has been predicted in all these states on July 10. The water level of rivers may increase due to torrential rains in the areas of Eastern Uttar Pradesh (UP).

2. Eastern and North-Eastern India

Monsoon has completely settled in Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha.

  • Danger of lightning: Many districts of Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Eastern Madhya Pradesh and Bihar may witness thunderstorms along with very heavy rain on Friday.

  • Strong winds: Torrential rains will continue in Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. During this period, cyclonic winds can blow at a speed of 30 to 60 km/hour. There is also a warning of heavy rain in the northeastern states (Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya and Nagaland).

3. Western India

Mixed monsoon conditions prevail in Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra.

  • Heavy rain: There is a possibility of heavy rainfall in eastern Rajasthan, coastal areas of Gujarat and Konkan-Goa region. Monsoon is also active in the areas around Mumbai and Mayanagari.

  • Drought-like conditions: Rainfall is very less in some interior parts of Western Rajasthan and Gujarat, due to which the temperature there will remain above normal.

4. Central India

Heavy rains continue in most of the districts of Madhya Pradesh (MP) and Chhattisgarh. An alert has been issued for heavy to very heavy rain, especially in the districts of Eastern Madhya Pradesh, within the next 24 hours, which may cause waterlogging in low-lying areas.

5. Southern India

Monsoon performance has been excellent in the southern states of Kerala, Coastal Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Heavy rains along with strong winds are expected in the coastal areas of Karnataka and Kerala. Major cities like Chennai will have partly cloudy sky with light rain and thundershowers. In view of the high waves rising in the sea, fishermen in coastal areas have been given a strict warning not to venture into the sea.
