Assam Nagaon Gang Rape Case: Tafazul Islam, the prime accused in the rape of a minor girl in Assam, escaped from police custody on Saturday morning and jumped into a lake at Dhing in Nagaon district, resulting in his death. According to the police, the accused was arrested on Friday and taken to the crime spot at 3.30 am for 'crime scene' investigation.

Giving this information, the police said, “The accused Tafazul Islam escaped from police custody and jumped into the lake. So the police immediately launched a search operation and found his body after about two hours.” Meanwhile, the villagers of Borbheti, the ancestral home of the accused, have decided not to attend his funeral and have refused to allow his burial in the village cemetery.

Big decision of the local people

Locals expressed outrage over the incident. Village resident Saklain said, “We have decided not to attend the funeral of this criminal.” Also, we have isolated his family from society… We do not want to live with criminals.'

Another local resident, Asaduddin Ahmed, said, “We are ashamed of such a criminal act of the accused. He does not deserve forgiveness. When we know that a criminal has died, we will not allow his body to be placed in our graveyard. And I will not even attend his funeral.”

He escaped from police custody and jumped into the lake

Nagaon Superintendent of Police (SP) Swapnil Deka said that the accused attacked a policeman and escaped from police custody and jumped into the lake. So we immediately informed the SDRF. A search operation was launched immediately and his body was found after about two hours. In which a policeman has also been injured and has been admitted to the hospital. Two other accused are still absconding and the search for other accused is on after raids were conducted at several places on Friday night.

The victim was returning home from tuition

Last Thursday evening, three people raped a 14-year-old girl in Dhing. Sagira was returning home after tuition. The accused left the victim injured near a pond on the roadside and fled. After which the local people informed the police about the incident.

The Chief Minister assured strict action

Earlier, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had said on Friday that strict action would be taken against the culprits. Sarma immediately sent the state's Director General of Police to visit the spot and a minister to Nagaon Hospital to investigate the incident, who inquired about the health of the victim.
