Aam Aadmi Party has issued 10 guarantees for the Lok Sabha elections. The guarantee given by CM Kejriwal to the country today also includes the promise of making Delhi a full state. CM Kejriwal said that if the Indian coalition government is formed at the Centre, Delhi will be given the status of a full state.
The demand for giving full state status to Delhi is often raised. CM Kejriwal has demanded this several times during his 9-year tenure. The biggest reason behind this demand is complete freedom and right to work in Delhi. Being a union territory, powers are divided between the Center and the Delhi government. There is often a situation of conflict between the Center and Delhi. In the current 'AAP' government, it has often been seen that there is tension between the Lieutenant Governor and CM Kejriwal.
Elections were held in Delhi for the first time in 1952 and the Congress government was formed and Chaudhary Brahm Prakash was made the CM. Even then there was a conflict between the CM and the Chief Commissioner regarding the officers. BJP was also demanding this, but after forming the government at the Centre, it put its own demand on hold.
