Dhamtari, June 9 (HS). With the aim of promoting environmental management, Clean Green Village Week is being organized in every village of the district under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. On this occasion, people are being made aware through various activities. In this sequence, on Sunday, cleanliness drive, water conservation, tree plantation campaign was carried out in many villages including Gram Panchayat Potiyadih, Parastarai, Khartuli. Raksha Sutra was tied to the trees for the purpose of environmental protection. A pledge of cleanliness and environmental protection was taken.

During the programme, the villagers in the gram panchayats are cleaning public places, wall writing, writing slogans on cleanliness and drinking water, cleaning of community toilets under cleanliness, repair and construction of soakpits-recharge pits are being done through their labour. Also, for environmental awareness, public representatives and villagers are tying Raksha Sutra on old trees and making people aware to protect trees. Before the onset of rains, pits were dug for plantation in ponds and public places so that plantation could be done on time for greenery.

CEO of Janpad Panchayat Dhamtari Deepak Thakur said that as per the instructions of the government, the villagers are participating enthusiastically in the organization of Clean Green Village Week. This event represents a transformative phase focused on cleanliness. CEO of Janpad Panchayat Kurud BR Verma said that the decline in groundwater level in rural areas is a major concern. Because it is the primary source of drinking water. People were informed about the excessive exploitation of groundwater for irrigation due to lack of groundwater, urbanization and climate change. Rural women of Vikaskhand Nagari took a pledge to save the environment by tying Raksha Sutra on trees to protect water, forest and land in the Clean Green Village Week program and also said that oxygen from trees, moisture of agricultural land and water for life is possible only when trees are saved. On this occasion, Green Army sisters were honored by presenting coconut and applying tilak of gulal.

Women from Gram Panchayats Potiyadih, Parastarai, Khartuli, Ranwa, Sankara (S) of Dhamtari development block, Gram Panchayats Kanharpuri, Katalbod, Dhuma, Kachana, Madeli, Chataud of Kurud development block, Gram Panchayats Korgaon, Rajpur, Sonpari, Hasda of Magarlod development block, Gram Panchayats Mohabahara, Khamhariya, Munaikera, Sihawa, Kallemeta, Guhanalala of Singpur Nagari development block tied Raksha Sutra to old Peepal, Banyan and trees of different species in the presence of villagers and pledged to protect them.

Sarpanch of Gram Panchayat Potiyadih, Sitaram Dhruv said that trees are the basis of life and hence we should protect them. He appealed to the people to plant as many trees as possible and protect them.
