Pakistan flood: It has been raining heavily in Balochistan, Pakistan for three consecutive days. Due to heavy rains the streets have turned into lakes, most of the roads have been washed away.
The situation has worsened to such an extent that the government has declared emergency in Balochistan. A total of 40 people have died in different areas due to heavy rains. Of these, 12 died in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday itself. Apart from this, 4 people have died in Punjab and two in Balochistan. Two more people died after lightning struck several places along with heavy rain in Balochistan's Makran on Sunday.
The death toll in Balochistan alone has increased to 10. The rain situation is so serious that emergency has been declared in the capital Quetta. Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti addressed an online meeting and reviewed the situation. The situation has worsened in Pakistan's capital Islamabad due to rain. Pakistan PM Shahbaz Sharif called a meeting to deal with the situation. After the meeting he said that he has instructed the rescue forces to help the people immediately.
Shahbaz Sharif was hopeful that the rains would replenish some water in the reservoirs, as lakes and ponds at various places were on the verge of drying up. Now there will be some relief from this rain. 33 people have died and 27 have been injured due to rain in Afghanistan. Due to rain in Taliban ruled Afghanistan, 600 houses have been destroyed at various places while about 200 animals have died. Due to this rain, agriculture has suffered damage and the condition of the roads has also deteriorated.
Balochistan CM Sarfaraz Bugti said that due to blockage of drains at many places, water has filled the roads instead of flowing. Pakistan Disaster Management Authority spokesperson Yunus Mengal said that the rescue operation is ongoing. Schools and other institutions have been ordered to remain closed till Tuesday.
