TV Tariff Plan: In July this year, mobile recharge plans had become expensive, after which Jio, Airtel and Vodafone-Idea users were very angry and after that they shifted their connections to BSNL. However, now watching TV is going to be expensive. Actually, the central government has announced an increase in cable TV operator tariff and GST.
Demand to impose 5 percent GST on cable TV instead of 18 percent
However, protests against this decision of the government have started in many parts of the country including Tamil Nadu. Opposition has started against the Central Government's rule of increasing channel tariff and imposing 18 percent GST. Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has increased the tariffs of cable TV channels. Also 18 percent GST is being imposed. But cable TV operators say that the GST rate should be 5 percent instead of 18 percent.
The government's decision is being opposed
Cable TV operators of Chennai are opposing this rule of the government. AMMK founder TTV Dhinakaran has written a post on the social media platform regarding this matter. He has also put pressure on the government to withdraw the rule of imposing 18 percent GST.
Know how much the monthly expenses will increase
The increase in GST will have a direct impact on customers. Meaning, if the government imposes 18 percent GST on cable TV operators, then the increased price will be recovered by the operator from the customers. In such a situation, if your monthly recharge is Rs 500 then you will have to pay Rs 90 more. Whereas on recharge of Rs 1000 you will have to pay additional Rs 180. Similarly, on recharge of Rs 1500, you will have to pay Rs 270 more. In such a situation, your monthly expenses of users watching cable TV will increase. What is cable TV?
