Mumbai: The Admissions Regulatory Authority (ARA) has taken strict action against 12 private unaided medical, Ayurveda, homeopathy and Unani degree course colleges for demanding fees five times the regular fee. The Admission Regulatory Authority has ordered to admit 14 students who had complained against these colleges as per the decision of the Fee Regulatory Authority (FRA).
Students seeking admission through institutional quota in private unaided medical colleges, homeopathy and Unani degree and master's colleges in the state were charged five times the regular fee for the academic year 2024-25. Although the FRA has not increased the fees and has directed all private unaided medical, ayurvedic, homeopathic and Unani colleges in the state to charge the fees as per the notice published on November 10, 2023, some colleges are demanding five times the fees. Some students complained to ARA that some colleges required them to pay the entire course fee in one lump sum, while one college demanded Rs 50 lakh for admission. Taking this complaint seriously, the Admission Regulating Authority has directed the concerned colleges to immediately give admission to the students as per the regular fee scale. It has also been said that if this is not done, strict action will be taken against the colleges.
