Recently, a meeting was held between BCCI and IPL franchise owners ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. During the meeting, matters suddenly got heated when Kolkata Knight Riders owner Shah Rukh Khan and Punjab Kings' Ness Wadia got into an argument. The topic of discussion was the number of players retained ahead of the IPL mega auction.

It is known that the franchises work hard to prepare the best team. But after every three years BCCI organizes a mega auction due to which the franchises are able to retain only 3-4 players and then have to struggle to prepare the entire team again. Meanwhile, Shahrukh Khan was seen in favor of ending the mega auction.

According to a Cricbuzz report, a BCCI source who was present at the meeting said that Shah Rukh Khan was strongly advocating against the mega auction. There was also a time when the KKR owner had a heated argument with Punjab Kings co-owner Ness Wadia over the number of retentions. Shah Rukh Khan was in favour of big retentions while Wadia was against excessive retentions.

In this meeting held in Mumbai, Shahrukh Khan supported Sunrisers Hyderabad on the issue that the mega auction should be cancelled. In the meeting, Kavya Maran was seen supporting Shahrukh Khan on this issue. However, no decision has been taken by the BCCI yet. The board will inform the owners about its decision by the end of August.

Kavya Maran said that it takes a lot of time to build a team and as discussed, it takes a lot of time and investment to prepare mature young players. Abhishek Sharma took 3 years to bring consistency in his performance. You will agree that there are many such examples in other teams as well. Other owners who attended the meeting included Kiran Kumar Grandhi and Parth Jindal of Delhi Capitals, Sanjiv Goenka of Lucknow Super Giants, Rupa Gurunath of Chennai Super Kings, Manoj Badole of Rajasthan Royals and Prathamesh Mishra of Royal Challengers. Some owners joined the meeting through video conference. Ambani of Mumbai Indians was also present.

After the meeting, Delhi Capitals owner Jindal spoke to the media and said that he is in favour of the mega auction. He said that I am surprised that for the first time the issue of continuing the mega auction was discussed. I am personally in favour of it.
